Until 1950, Brazil wore the white jersey as its first jersey. The defeat by Uruguay and the loss of the World Cup in 1950 changed this fact as the white jersey was considered cursed and the colors of Rio (yellow and green) became the colors of the national team to "wash away the shame" and honor with in this way the city of Rio which they hurt with the loss of that World Cup. The blue jersey had been introduced as an alternative.

Η Βραζιλία μέχρι και το 1950 είχε ως πρώτη φανέλα τη λευκή. Η ήττα από την Ουρουγουάη και η απώλεια του Παγκοσμίου Κυπέλλου το 1950 άλλαξε αυτό το δεδομένο καθώς η λευκή φανέλα θεωρήθηκε καταραμένη και τα χρώματα του Ρίο (κίτρινο και πράσινο) έγιναν τα χρώματα της εθνικής ομάδας ώστε να «ξεπλύνουν τη ντροπή» και να τιμήσουν με αυτό τον τρόπο την πόλη του Ρίο την οποία πλήγωσαν με την απώλεια εκείνου του Παγκοσμίου Κυπέλλου. Στα χρόνια που ακολούθησαν, η Βραζιλία χρησιμοποίησε λευκή εμφάνιση μόνο σε συγκεκριμένα παιχνίδια και κατά βάση επετειακού χαρακτήρα. Μέχρι που το 2019 στο Copa America που πραγματοποιήθηκε στη Βραζιλία, η βραζιλιάνικη ομάδα παρουσίασε ξανά μετά από πολλά χρόνια λευκή φανέλα. Η λευκή φανέλα φορέθηκε στην πρεμιέρα της διοργάνωσης κόντρα στη Βολιβία. Η Βραζιλία κέρδισε με 3-0 με δύο γκολ του Κουτίνιο και ένα του Έβερτον.

Η Βραζιλία δεν ξαναφόρεσε τη λευκή φανέλα στο τουρνουά αλλά ακόμα και έτσι αποδείχθηκε γούρικη. Στη 2^η αγωνιστική του ομίλου ακολούθησε η ισοπαλία με 0-0 με τη Βενεζουέλα και στην 3^η η νίκη με 5-0 ΄κόντρα στο Περού. Στον προημιτελικό, η Βραζιλία προκρίθηκε με 4-3 στα πέναλτι απέναντι στην Παραγουάη ενώ στον ημιτελικό επικράτησε με 2-0 της Αργεντινής. Στον μεγάλο τελικό του Μαρακανά, η Βραζιλία πήρε τη νίκη με 3-1 απέναντι στο Περού και κατέκτησε το 9^ο Copa America της ιστορίας της.
