Το Μεξικό ισοβάθμησε με τη Βραζιλία στους 7 βαθμούς και έχασε την πρώτη θέση του ομίλου λόγω της διαφοράς τερμάτων. Στη φάση των 16 αντιμετώπισε την Ολλανδία. Παρότι οι Μεξικανοί προηγήθηκαν με γκολ του Τζιοβάνι Ντος Σάντος ηττήθηκαν με 1-2 αφού ο Σνάιντερ στο 87’ και ο Χούντελααρ με πέναλτι στο 93’ έδωσαν τη νίκη και την πρόκριση στους «Οράνιε».
